Did You Spot Any of the Creepy Hidden Faces in ‘Midsommar’?

Published

on

Creepy hidden imagery in horror is nothing new, with notable examples being the flashes of Pazuzu’s face in The Exorcist and more recently, the hidden ghosts in Mike Flanagan’s “The Haunting of Hill House.” As it turns out, Ari Aster’s Midsommar is also home to nightmarish imagery that most horror fans – including yours truly – probably didn’t notice in theaters.

Twitter’s @DanielGayLewis has pointed out and screen-capped one of the hidden faces in Midsommar today, letting us know precisely where in the movie it can be found:

“when the hårgas lift dani onto the pedestal and start walking to the dinner table, you can see her dead sister’s face in the trees with the exhaust tube in her mouth… this shit is in different areas! what the fuck!”

Doing a little research, we came across a post on Reddit from a couple months back that makes mention of at least a couple other instances of this sort of hidden imagery:

  • “So whenever Dani and Christian are on the couch in the first act of the movie and the camera slowly zooms in on the snow outside her window to the title sequence, I swear that in the snow outside you could see a creepy/demonic face for a several seconds.” – @noahhead
  • “I recall seeing a face/figure in the rocks during the “fall” scene” – @hobbessss
  • “At the beginning, with the wailing/singing, the close up of the forest line reveals a face.” – @GawaintheHunter

Midsommar is arriving on Digital/On Demand September 24, and on Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD October 8, so keep your eyes peeled when you revisit the film at home.

And if you notice any of these hidden faces, be sure to let us know…

Kane Parsons’ ‘Backrooms’ Heads Back to Theaters This Week With Extended Cut

Backrooms $100 million - Backrooms theatrical re-release with extended cut

After a record-breaking box office run, A24 and director Kane Parsons’ Backrooms is heading back to theaters with an extended cut.

AMC Theatres is unleashing Backrooms: Everything Must Go Edition with bonus footage this week, July 3.

AMC describes this release as a “theatrically exclusive post-credit” with additional footage from Kane Parsons. Expect 15 minutes of bonus footage, with the new version clocking in at 2 hours and 6 minutes.

Backrooms is already the second highest grossing horror movie of 2026, and it’s now nipping at the heels of Obsession to claim the #1 spot. This move could get audiences back in seats over the holiday weekend, but its facing steep competition in a crowded box office.

In the film, Chiwetel Ejiofor stars in Backrooms as the owner of Cap’n Clark’s Ottoman Empire, who discovers a strange doorway in the basement of the furniture showroom. He sets out to explore the mysterious, liminal space, walking headfirst into a creepypasta nightmare.

Renate Reinsve (A Different Man) also stars in Backrooms.

I wrote in my review, “Backrooms is at once complex and sparse, but never repetitive. It might be set in 1990, but it effectively captures modern anxieties and isolation in a way that frequently makes your skin crawl. While the journey ultimately loses steam by its cryptic end, Parsons’ visual representation of the human psyche disturbs like no other.”

YouTube prodigy Kane Parsons makes his feature directorial debut based on his creepypasta-inspired video series, which debuted in 2022 and has amassed over 190 million views to date.

Will Soodik wrote the screenplay.
