Just the other week, Amazon Studios acquired worldwide rights to first-time filmmaker Andrew Patterson’s The Vast of Night (read our review) out of the Toronto International Film Festival’s Midnight Madness program.
Set at the dawn of the space-race over the course of one night in 1950s New Mexico, it follows a young switchboard operator (Sierra McCormick) and a radio DJ (Jake Horowitz) as they uncover a strange frequency that could change their lives, their small town, and all of Earth – forever.
The film world premiered out of the Slamdance Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature, garnering the attention of genre fans and festivals everywhere. Recently the film also won the Overlook Jury Award at the Overlook Film Festival in New Orleans.
A poster has already been released and perfectly captures the era in looking like an old black-and-white UFO photo – and it’s perfect that there’s a saucer hiding within the art.
