Tony Todd Returning as The Candyman in the Jordan Peele-Produced Sequel? [Exclusive]
Principal photography kicked off a little over a month ago here in Chicago on the next Candyman, the Jordan Peele-produced sequel to the Clive Barker adaptation that’s directed by Nia DaCosta (Little Woods).
While Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Us, Aquaman) leads the cast, horror fans have been on pins and needles waiting for an announcement in regards to the title character.
I had been hearing for weeks, from several sources, that Tony Todd will be returning to the role that he first portrayed in the 1992 film of the same name. All of my sources are solid, but none of them were fully confident, which led me on a wild goose chase for confirmation. Just a few minutes ago, I had given up and decided to run the scoop on Twitter. Within minutes, two more trustworthy sources came forward telling me that what I had been hearing was, in fact, true.
While I’d still like to tread carefully and wait for MGM to officially announce the news in order to pop the champagne and celebrate, it’s looking like Tony Todd will be returning as the hook-handed Candyman next summer.
Peele (Get Out, Us) co-wrote the script, which is described as a “spiritual sequel” to the original classic. The sequel returns to the neighborhood where the legend began: the now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood.
Watch this spot for all official news as it arrives. We’ll all be Candyman’s victim come June 12, 2020.

The Fall franchise heads to a new location with new characters in the upcoming Fall 2: Deadpoint, and the official trailer has been released by Lionsgate this afternoon.
Watch the official trailer for Fall 2: Deadpoint below.
Look for the horror sequel in theaters September 2, 2026.
Harriet Slater (Tarot) stars in the upcoming Fall 2: Deadpoint alongside Arsema Thomas (“Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story”) and Tom Brittney (Greyhound).
Michael & Peter Spierig (Predestination, Jigsaw) direct Fall 2: Deadpoint from a script by Fall writers Scott Mann (who also directed the original) and Jonathan Frank.
From the survival hit that tapped into the fear of heights and left friends stranded at the top of a tower comes a climb that goes higher, gets deadlier, and hits with next-level adrenaline.
In Fall 2: Deadpoint, two friends take on new heights in Thailand, where unpredictable terrain, extreme exposure, and nowhere to hide push survival further than ever before.
Overwhelmed by her sister Hunter’s death, Jax (Slater) connects with Luce (Thomas), Hunter’s fearless friend. To heal, they attempt the infamous plank walk of Mount Kwan in Thailand.
After a sudden rockslide leaves them stranded on a fragile plank 3000 feet in the air, Jax must confront her deepest fears and fight for survival to find closure.
Fall 3 has already been greenlit, with Mann returning to the director’s chair. The first Fall was a surprise hit in theaters, scaring up $18 million at the worldwide box office back in 2022.
