André Øvredal Directing ‘Dracula’ Film ‘The Last Voyage of the Demeter’ for Amblin

Writer Bragi Schut’s script The Last Voyage of the Demeter has been floating around for many years now, with several different directors attached at various points. The latest director to board the project, THR reports today, is André Øvredal (The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark), who is in talks to bring the script to life for Amblin Partners.

THR explains, “Demeter was the name of the ship that transported Dracula from Transylvania to London in Bram Stoker’s classic tale. In that 1897 novel, the ship washes up on the shores of England, tattered and broken, with one raving-mad survivor.”

“Originally written in 2002 by Bragi Schut (Season of the Witch), the script tells the tale of that journey, in which the crew is slaughtered one by one by a mysterious passenger.”

Bradley Fischer, Mike Medavoy and Arnold Messer are set to produce.

Filmmakers including Robert Schwentke, Marcus Nispel, Stefan Ruzowitsky, David Slade and Neil Marshall have been attached to direct the film over the years.

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.
