Before bursting onto the scene with A24’s The Witch back in 2015, Robert Eggers wrote and directed a few short films including an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart. Eggers, whose new movie The Lighthouse is now playing in select theaters, made the 21-minute short film back in 2008, but at this time it’s sadly not available for public viewing.
As he revealed during a Reddit AMA session this week, however, Eggers’ short film adaptation of The Tell-Tale Heart is likely to become available sometime later this year.
“I hope to release The Tell-Tale Heart soon. It’s not that great, but has a few bits,” Eggers noted. He later added, “Should be available before the end of the year.”
Here’s the plot rundown for the short, written and directed by Eggers:
“Within the chambers of a desolate house, a solitary servant tends to his invalid master. Tangibly detailed period design and hauntingly lifelike puppetry unearth the dreamworld of Poe.”
While you wait, you can watch Eggers’ short film Brothers right now, which was made back in 2013. It was initially intended as a proof-of-concept for The Witch.
