“I was convinced nobody would ever see this movie.”
Like other classic slasher films including Halloween and Friday the 13th, one of the most important aspects of Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street is the haunting score, which carried over into all the sequels and became one of the most downright iconic themes in horror history. Elm Street’s score was the work of Charles Bernstein, who also scored Cujo, April Fool’s Day, The Entity and Deadly Friend. For their new web series “Behind the Board,” Gibson sat down with Bernstein to dig deep into the nightmarish sounds of 1984’s horror classic.
In “Behind the Board,” Gibson takes music fans on an inside and in-depth look at the creation of the groundbreaking music behind their favorite songs, albums and films.
Charles Bernstein discusses the writing, performing, recording and production of the Elm Street score in the 20-minute video, which we encourage you to check out below.
