Vin Diesel Keeping the Hope Alive for ‘The Last Witch Hunter’ and ‘Riddick’ Sequels

Published

Prior to the release of The Last Witch Hunter back in 2015, star Vin Diesel had noted that the studio had already expressed interest in him reprising the role for a potential sequel, though the reviews and underwhelming box office take surely brought an end to those early conversations; on a production budget of $90 million, the film made $146 million worldwide.

But it seems Diesel is still keeping that flame lit regardless, as he casually mentioned the possibility of a Last Witch Hunter sequel in a new post made over on Instagram the other day. In the same update, he also reminded that he’s hungry to play Richard B. Riddick once more – the character, who first arrived in 2000’s Pitch Black, was last seen in 2013’s Riddick.

Diesel wrote, “After the longest filming shoot of my career with Fast 9… A film I am so immensely proud of. Before entering the next character and film project… so much to be excited about… Fast continuation, Xander Cage, Riddick… Groot. Not to mention the possibilities of Witch Hunter and the follow up to Bloodshot. Before all the press that coincides with the release of the various pictures next year. I must take a minute to center. To celebrate the wonderful family I have been blessed with. So grateful for the Holidays.”

It sounds like even Diesel doesn’t know whether or not a Witch Hunter sequel will get off the ground, but for what it’s worth, we do know that a script for the next Riddick project has already been written. The film, at this time, is titled Riddick 4: Furya, and it’s been penned by David Twohy. At this point in time, that film seems way more likely than Witch Hunter 2.

As for Bloodshot, the comic book adaptation will arrive in theaters on February 21, 2020. Only box office results will determine whether or not the film spawns a sequel/franchise.

Sleepy Hollow movie

Paramount is heading to Sleepy Hollow with a brand new feature film take on the classic Headless Horseman tale, with Lindsey Anderson Beer (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines) announced to direct the movie back in 2022. But is that project still happening, now two years later?

The Hollywood Reporter lets us know this afternoon that Paramount Pictures has renewed its first-look deal with Lindsey Anderson Beer, and one of the projects on the upcoming slate is the aforementioned Sleepy Hollow movie that was originally announced two years ago.

THR details, “Additional projects on the development slate include… Sleepy Hollow with Anderson Beer attached to write, direct, and produce alongside Todd Garner of Broken Road.”

You can learn more about the slate over on The Hollywood Reporter. It also includes a supernatural thriller titled Here Comes the Dark from the writers of Don’t Worry Darling.

The origin of all things Sleepy Hollow is of course Washington Irving’s story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” which was first published in 1819. Tim Burton adapted the tale for the big screen in 1999, that film starring Johnny Depp as main character Ichabod Crane.

More recently, the FOX series “Sleepy Hollow” was also based on Washington Irving’s tale of Crane and the Headless Horseman. The series lasted four seasons, cancelled in 2017.
