Fox/Disney Releasing Josh Boone’s Original ‘The New Mutants’ Cut?!

Published

on

While we’re (pleasantly) surprised that Disney’s 20th Century Fox is releasing The New Mutants in theaters (April 3, 2020), it looks as if my insider was right on the money regarding the film’s planned reshoots.

I had been told and reported/tweeted on many occasions that Josh Boone would not be getting behind the camera for additional photography. In fact, producer Simon Kinberg was supposed to help rework the Marvel comics adaptation that would have included Antonio Banderas as Mr. Sinister and allegedly made it “scarier”.

The “he said, she said” gets a little convoluted as both sides were making claims and we haven’t been sure where Boone and Kinberg actually stand. (To be frank, there’s a lot of misinformation being spread.)

No matter, where we stand today is that Fox plans to release The New Mutants on April 3rd with allegedly no changes to Boone’s original cut; at least that’s what the filmmaker claims in the following response to a tweet…

It never really made sense for them to tinker with the original cut, although reports on It: Chapter One‘s success pressuring execs to make changes make a lot of sense. Either way, we’re finally getting our X-Men-based “horror” film and hope it does well enough to sell Disney on more.

In the film, “five young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves.”

The cast includes Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa a.k.a Sunspot, a mutant with the ability to absorb and channel solar power; Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar, the Native American telepath also known as “Mirage”; Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes, a medical doctor who has the ability to generate a protective bio-field around herself but also has more going on than she lets on; Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin, also known as Magik, who uses teleportation; Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie, a.k.a. Cannonball; and Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair, a.k.a. Wolfsbane, who can turn into a wolf.

Watch for the new trailer next week.

Don Mancini in the “Early Stages” of Working On a New “Chucky” Movie!

Chucky death

Everyone’s favorite killer doll is headed back to the small screen with “Chucky” Season 3: Part 2 on April 10, but are any further movies being planned at this time?

Created by Don Mancini, the “Chucky” television series remarkably plays around with existing elements from all previous films without disregarding ANYTHING from the past. From the original Child’s Play to sequels including Child’s Play 2, Bride of Chucky and even Seed of Chucky, it’s all one cohesive timeline that Mancini remains deeply committed to.

Of course, the most recent film in the Child’s Play franchise was the 2019 remake, to date the only movie in the saga that’s NOT part of Mancini’s vision. Is Mancini’s original incarnation going to spend his final days on TV, while another Chucky will be featured in the movies? It’s a question we’ve been asking ourselves for the last few years, and we may now have an answer.

Speaking with the Scream Dreams Podcast this week, Mancini revealed that he’s in the early stages of development on a potential new installment in the original Chucky film franchise!

“Like anyone in this business, I want to do more things. At this point though if it’s only Chucky I’m totally cool with that,” Mancini explains. “I have other things I want to do. I’m working on a new pilot. I’m also, actually, in the early stages of working on a new Chucky movie.”

Mancini adds, “At this point, my goal is just to keep working.”

Outside of the aforementioned Child’s Play remake, there are to date seven installments in the franchise, with Cult of Chucky (2017) being the original franchise’s most recent film.

For now, Chucky remains a small screen icon. Don’t miss the premiere of Season 3: Part 2 on both USA and SYFY on April 10, with new episodes hitting Peacock the day after they air.
