Rian Johnson Reveals That He’s Working on a Sequel to His Hit Murder-Mystery ‘Knives Out’

Glass Onion knives out

Rian Johnson‘s original murder-mystery Knives Out continues to be a box office juggernaut, grossing just shy of $250 million worldwide to date on a $40 million production budget. Needless to say, Lionsgate is probably all-in for a sequel in the near future, and though such a project hasn’t actually been given the green light just yet, it seems it’s only a matter of time.

Speaking with THR ahead of the Golden Globes last night, where Knives Out was nominated for three awards including Best Picture, Johnson spilled the beans.

The site reports, “Johnson told The Hollywood Reporter at Lionsgate’s pre-Golden Globes party on Saturday night that he was already developing a sequel centered on Daniel Craig’s Southern detective Benoit Blanc investigating a new case.”

Craig is reportedly very interested in playing the detective character again, the site adds, and they also say that Johnson is eager to make the sequel within the next year.

Could Johnson have a brand new franchise on his hands, with Craig’s Benoit Blanc connecting each of the installments? Sounds like that’s probably the plan, at this point in time!
