Shudder’s Documentary Series Exploring “Cursed” Horror Film Productions Set to Premiere at SXSW

Published

Many horror films over the years have had alleged “curses” attached to them, with the productions believed to be plagued by supernatural forces. We’re talking about films like The Exorcist, The Omen and Poltergeist, and we assume those will be precisely the films covered in brand new five-part documentary series “Cursed Films,” premiering at SXSW this March.

From showrunner Jay Cheel, “Cursed Films” is a documentary series which explores the myths and legends behind some of Hollywood’s notoriously cursed horror film productions.

“Cursed Films will reveal the events that haunted these productions through interviews with experts, witnesses and the cast, directors and producers who lived through the real-life events.”

“Were these films really cursed, as many believe, or just the victims of bad luck and bizarre circumstances?”

The series is soon coming our way courtesy of Shudder, we understand. “Cursed Films is a fascinating look at why these iconic horror movies have gained such an outsized reputation for being the focus of bizarre tragedies and strange coincidences that seemingly defy explanation,” Craig Engler, Shudder’s General Manager, said in a statement last year.

This year’s SXSW Film Festival runs from March 13-22. See the full lineup over on EW.
