Fede Alvarez has been talking about a sequel to his suspenseful home invasion film Don’t Breathe for a while now, and the project has finally been given a green light this week!
THR reports that Alvarez will not be directing the sequel. His replacement? Rodo Sayagues, the co-writer of Don’t Breathe. Sayagues also co-wrote Alvarez’s Evil Dead.
The site adds that Stephen Lang will be back as the “Blind Man.”
“Don’t Breathe 2 is set several years after the home invasion of the first movie, with the Blind Man living in quiet solace…until his past sins catch up to him.”
Production is set to begin in April. Alvarez wrote the sequel’s script with Sayagues and will produce alongside Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert of Ghost House Pictures.
In Don’t Breathe, a trio of thieves breaks into the house of a blind man who isn’t as helpless as he seems. Jane Levy stars as one of those unlucky thieves, named Rocky, who survives her harrowing ordeal. So too does the “Blind Man.” No word yet on whether or not Levy will be back for the sequel, or if the film will tell an entirely different story altogether.
