Both J.A. Bayona and David Fincher had been attached to direct a sequel to 2013’s World War Z at various points in time, with the Fincher-helmed iteration of the project *almost* happening before Paramount completely pulled the plug early in 2019. Budget issues were reportedly to blame, and we haven’t heard a peep about the sequel since then.
Which brings us to this week, and an interview THR conducted with Plan B producers Jeremy Kleiner and Dede Gardner. The site asked if a sequel to World War Z was ever going to become a reality, and Kleiner suggested that Plan B hasn’t given up hope just yet.
“Someday,” Kleiner told the site. “We love Max Brooks’ book. We love the universe of it. It doesn’t feel like World War Z is done and over with.”
Last we heard, Plan B’s Brad Pitt was set to reprise the role of Gerry Lane for the World War Z sequel, but it’s always possible that those plans will change if/when it finally happens.
Back in 2013, World War Z scared up $540 million at the worldwide box office.
