After a massive film festival run over the past several months, Variety had first reported that Arrow acquired both U.S. and the U.K. rights to Kirill Sokolov’s feature debut Why Don’t You Just Die!, which won two awards at the Fantasia Film Festival.
The Russian movie, which world premiered at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival and also screened at the Cinepocalypse Film Festival, is an action-packed comedy thriller starring Aleksandr Kuznetsov as a young man who gets enlisted by his girlfriend to kill her abusive father, a corrupt detective, and shows up at their Moscow home armed with a hammer.
Sokolov told the site that the film reflects on “the realities of life in Russia, modern relationships, and societal attitudes.”
He added that the film is intended as an “emotional rollercoaster, making the audience laugh, cry, and laugh again – but then immediately feel a sense of unease for having laughed.”
Bloody has now learned that Arrow will release this must-see black comedy in limited theaters on April 10, 2020, with markets including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Knoxville, Ithaca, Houston, Lubbock, El Paso and Phoenix.
