Darren Lynn Bousman‘s Spiral: From the Book of Saw looks to be a very different Saw movie. For starters, it’s releasing in May rather than October, and it stars two actors you probably would’ve never expected to see in the franchise: Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson. But if you were worried about Spiral toning down the violence, well, that won’t be the case at all.
Lionsgate’s Spiral has officially been rated “R” for:
“Sequences of grisly bloody violence and torture, pervasive language, some sexual references and brief drug use.”
A sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral.
Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran (Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.
Spiral was written by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger, from a story by Chris Rock.
The franchise returns to the big screen on May 15, 2020.
