We had learned late last year that a sequel to the Halloween classic Hocus Pocus was being developed for the Disney+ streaming service, and a director has now been found.
Variety reports that Adam Shankman (Hairspray) will direct Hocus Pocus 2!
But will the original Sanderson sisters be returning? Variety notes, “The original Hocus Pocus cast members are not attached to the sequel, but Disney is hopeful that they will become involved in some capacity. Sources say that ideally the trio of actresses will reprise their roles, rather than having to completely reboot the first film.”
The Kenny Ortega-directed 1993 movie starred Omri Katz as a curious youngster who moves to Salem, Massachusetts, where he struggles to fit in before awakening a trio of diabolical witches (played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy) that were executed in the 17th century. The film also starred Thora Birch.
