“We’re Struggling”: What’s Going On With ‘Creep 3’? Mark Duplass Updates

A third film in the Mark Duplass-starring, Patrick Brice-directed Creep franchise has been in the works for a couple years now, but it sounds like Duplass and Brice are struggling to come up with a concept that warrants another film. Speaking with Indiewire over the weekend, Duplass updated on Creep 3 while admitting he’s not 100% happy with Creep 2.

We had to almost kill ourselves to make [Creep 2] as good as it was. I appreciate how many people liked it but I do feel like it wasn’t as good as it could have been, if I’m being perfectly honest,” Duplass told the site. And it sounds like those feelings about Creep 2 have really given Duplass and Brice cold feet about rushing into a follow-up installment.

Duplass explained, “If we’re going to make a third one, it’d better be super inspired. We are trying and we are putting effort into it, but we are not good enough yet to make it worthwhile, so we are struggling. That’s really it.”

We’ve written it twice, and neither of those stories are good enough,” he added.

The franchise centers on Duplass’ character, a total creep whose name is ever-changing but whose bizarre, murderous behavior is always documented in a found footage style.

His return, it would seem, is up in the air at the moment.
