Paramount and John Krasinski‘s A Quiet Place Part II was one of the first major movies to get delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, originally set for theatrical release last month but indefinitely bumped off the schedule when it started to become clear that movie theaters would soon be shutting down nationwide. This week, a new date has been announced.
The sequel will be released IN THEATERS on September 4th. That brings the film into theaters for Labor Day Weekend. Here’s hoping they’re actually back up and running by then.
At this time, really nobody knows for sure when the country is going to start getting back to normal, but it’s interesting to see that Paramount has faith in a return to normalcy by the Fall.
Part II had been on track to make around $60 million domestically during its opening weekend, so there’s no way Paramount was going to go direct-to-Premium VOD with it.
Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.
Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou also star.
Part II is rated PG-13 for “terror, violence and bloody/disturbing images.”
