Everardo Gout (Nat Geo’s Mars, Luke Cage) is directing the upcoming fifth installment in The Purge franchise, which is still slated for release on July 10, 2020. Of course, it’s highly likely that the film won’t actually meet that date, as productions have been shut down and movie theaters may not even be opened back up by then. But at this time, the film has yet to move.
In any event, THR let it slip this week that the title of the franchise’s fifth film is currently The Forever Purge, and they note that Jason Blum is currently “prepping” the film. From what we gather, filming wrapped on the movie before the coronavirus halted productions.
Thanks to Cris Parker for the heads up on this story. As he speculates, the title could indicate that the Purge is becoming a 24/7 event this time around. Purely a guess, for now…
Leven Rambin, who starred in the second season of HBO’s “True Detective,” will star alongside Will Patton, Cassidy Freeman, Ana de la Reguera and Tenoch Huerta.
Sources recently told THR that the film “takes the Purge out of its usual metropolitan setting while still dealing with class and race issues in the way the previous films have.”
Franchise creator James DeMonaco wrote the new movie.
