Some of the biggest names in horror are aligning for 16 States, a pandemic-themed zombie horror penned by John Requa & Glenn Ficarra (Jungle Cruise, This is Us).
Fede Alvarez, director of Evil Dead (2013) and Don’t Breathe, is helming the project for Vertigo Entertainment producer Roy Lee, a name behind more than a handful of huge horror films from The Ring to It, reports Deadline.
Lionsgate, best known for the Saw, Twilight and The Hunger Games films, won the project in an auction, reports the site.
As for the plot, it revolves around a pandemic, reports THR, who adds “this time with zombies, with a story of a mother trying to reach her family at the center of it.” The project has been described as having shades of the Will Smith zombie movie I Am Legend.
Vertigo Entertainment’s Miri Yoon is also producing with Zaftig Films’ Requa, Ficarra and Charlie Gogolak. Bad Hombre’s Alvarez, Shintaro Shimosawa and Rodolfo Sayagues are also producing.
Alvarez is also producing the next Texas Chainsaw Massacre and its possible accompanying series.
