Fresh off its international debut at Sundance earlier this year – film festivals, remember those? – Indonesian filmmaker Joko Anwar‘s (Satan’s Slaves) horror movie Impetigore has now been acquired by Shudder, Variety reports today.
The film, which Meagan reviewed for us at Sundance, is expected to arrive in the US, Canada and the UK on July 23.
“The film is a horror-thriller about a woman who discovers that her neighbors think she is cursed and want to kill her.”
Meagan wrote in her review, “Drawing inspiration from the likes of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Impetigore eschews jump-scare laden haunted house fare in favor of languid-paced taboo-breaking horror.”
“Impetigore is my love letter to horror movies I grew up with, slashers, ghost stories, wrapped in a tragic family drama not unlike my family. I’m excited to be working again with Shudder to bring Impetigore to their members around the world,” said Joko Anwar.
