Last month, A24 kicked off a series of auctions to benefit four different New York City-based charities that are working hard to get the city through the coronavirus pandemic, and several props and costumes from Ari Aster’s Midsommar went up for grabs late in the month. That auction has ended, and over $100,000 was raised!
The various props and costumes, which included everything from Dani’s May Queen Dress to the Finishing Mallet, the Bear Headdress and the May Queen Crown, collectively raised $117,750 for The FDNY Foundation, the official non-profit organization of the New York City Fire Department. Donations to the COVID-19 Emergency Fund will directly support members and their families who are suffering from this pandemic.
The original May Queen gown worn after Dani’s coronation comes complete with 10,000 silk flowers and weighs in at a staggering 30 pounds, and it alone was sold for a whopping $65,000. The other big ticket items were the May Queen Crown and the Finishing Mallet, the former going for $15,000 and the latter for $10,000. As for the Bear Headdress worn by Christian in the final act, that sold for $4,750.
