Foley artists make incredibly important contributions to our favorite movies but don’t quite ever get the same level of respect as, say, the actors, directors and makeup effects artists. In short, foley artists are the men and women who “create sounds based on a character’s movements and interactions,” reproducing everyday sounds to enhance audio quality.
Tara Blume is an Emmy-winning foley artist whose work can be heard in films including Lost Boys: The Thirst, The Devil Inside, John Dies at the End, The Guest, Tigers Are Not Afraid and Booksmart, along with television shows such as “The Exorcist” “Westworld,” and “Amazing Stories.” While at home in quarantine, she decide to recreate the sounds of Evil Dead II!
With no access to her studio and her usual arsenal of tools, Blume remade memorable sounds from Sam Raimi’s horror classic using only objects she had around the house – including a bike chain and a machete, because who doesn’t have one of those handy at all times? – and Entertainment Insider just shared the fascinating video over on Twitter this week.
Tara remakes the various sounds of Ash rummaging through the storage shed and bringing his famous chainsaw hand into being, one of the most iconic scenes from the 1987 sequel.
