It looks like the plan is still for Disney to release Josh Boone‘s The New Mutants in theaters on August 28, as today’s virtual “Comic Con at Home” panel did not feature any sort of surprise news about a straight-to-streaming drop or a release date change of any kind. But the panel did at least feature an awesome new trailer, along with the film’s entire opening scene.
These new bits of footage make it clear that The New Mutants is most definitely a horror movie, and they also feature a whole lot of action-packed insanity the fuses that horror with colorful super-heroics. Jump forward to 24-minutes into the video below to begin!
And underneath the video you’ll find a brand new piece of alternate poster art, which plays up the fact that the movie was inspired by Nightmare on Elm Street: Dream Warriors!
In the film, “Five young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves.”
