‘Dune’ Has Been Pushed All the Way Back to Late 2021

Published

Surprising absolutely nobody, we’ve learned today that Denis Villeneuve‘s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune will not be releasing in theaters this December, as planned.

Instead, Collider notes, Dune will now release on October 1, 2021. Warner Bros. and Legendary had up until this week been sticking to their December 18, 2020 release plan.

At this point it’s become pretty clear to studios, theater chains and audiences alike that the rest of 2020 is a wash on the theatrical front. So expect no more big releases this year.

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

The cast includes Timothée Chalamet‘s Paul Atreides, Josh Brolin‘s Gurney Halleck, Oscar Isaac‘s Duke Leto, Rebecca Ferguson‘s Lady Jessica, Javier Bardem‘s Stilgar, Zendaya‘s Chani, Sharon Duncan-Brewster‘s Liet-Kynes and Jason Momoa’s Duncan Idaho.

Villeneuve directed Dune from a screenplay he co-wrote with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts.

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has two awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

The Devil's Mouth trailer

Paradise turns deadly in the new trailer for The Devil’s Mouth, trapping a group of friends with summer’s deadliest movie monster: sharks.

The Devil’s Mouth debuts globally on Prime Video on July 29.

In the film, “Five friends set out on one last adventure along Thailand’s stunning coast, eager for a final thrill before life in the real world begins. They sign up for a guided swim through a remote cave system known as The Devil’s Mouth, a natural wonder that’s as breathtaking as it is unforgiving. Deep inside the labyrinth of narrow waterways, their journey takes a terrifying turn when they discover that a freak storm the week before flooded the caves with sea life.

The creatures died in the fresh water, but something survived… and it’s hunting them now— fast, silent, and deadly. Every corridor they round is overflowing with anxiety, and every wrong turn becomes a deadly encounter. As panic spreads and their sense of direction slips away, the group begins to fracture. Trust erodes, fear takes over, and survival becomes a savage game. In the suffocating darkness, every choice could be their last as they learn that to make it out alive, sacrifices must be made.”

Jeff Wadlow (Truth or Dare, Imaginary) directs the shark attack movie from a script he revised from Aja Gabel (“Sunny”) and Myung Joh Wesner (“Star Wars: Skeleton Crew”).

Kathryn Newton (Abigail, Lisa Frankenstein, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come), Lana Condor (Pretty Lethal), Nico Hiraga, Gavin Casalegno, Tommi Rose, and Tayme Thapthimthong star.

The upcoming survival thriller The Devil’s Mouth has been rated PG-13 by the MPA for “violent content, bloody images, some language, and suggestive material.”
