Lloyd Kaufman Praises the Script for Macon Blair and Legendary’s ‘Toxic Avenger’ Reboot
Announced back in 2019, Legendary Entertainment is developing a remake of Troma’s The Toxic Avenger, with Macon Blair on board to write and direct the upcoming movie.
More recently, Peter Dinklage had been set to star!
So how does Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman, who co-directed the original Toxic Avenger, feel about the project? Speaking with Dread Central, Kaufman raves about Blair’s script.
“Macon Blair knows Troma better than I do. He’s seen everything. He’s seen the cartoon, he’s seen the Halloween special, he’s seen everything. And he loves our movies like Troma’s War and Terror Firmer,” Kaufman tells Dread. “I’ve read the script and it’s better than the original and I leave it to him. If I’m called upon, I’d be happy to jump in. I learned on the musical to leave the creative to the creative. I learned to let them ask so if they want me, I’m there.”
Kaufman adds, “If they let Macon Blair direct it, I think it will be terrific. He knows the Troma sense of humor, the combination of slapstick and satire with the environmental theme.”

Macon Blair starred in the films Blue Ruin and Green Room, and he more recently wrote Netflix’s Hold the Dark and wrote/directed I Don’t Feel At Home in This World Anymore.
Keith C. Blackmore’s book series Mountain Man is headed to the screen, with Deadline reporting today that Joe Manganiello (“True Blood”) is on board to star in the film adaptation.
The actor will also produce the upcoming zombie movie.
“Mountain Man tells the story of Gus, a lonely post-apocalyptic survivor facing isolation and the ever-present specter of a zombie attack, who struggles with alcohol abuse and suicidal thoughts until he discovers another survivor, a captivating woman who poses another threat altogether.”
John Lee (False Positive) will direct Mountain Man from a script by Matt Deller.
“John is a brilliant creative mind. We’ve been looking for the right thing to do together since we filmed Pee Wee’s Big Holiday and it’s finally here,” 3:59’s Joe and Nick Manganiello told Deadline. “Very excited to get to work on such weird, wild project with him.”
Film Bridge International is launching sales on the project in Cannes.
