‘Red Sonja’ Movie Still Happening and Now Being Written by Tasha Huo

It’s been a few years now since we’ve reported on Millennium’s planned Red Sonja feature film, but it looks like the project is very much still alive and now has a new writer attached.

THR reports that Tasha Huo will write Red Sonja for Millennium. The site notes that Huo is also showrunning Netflix’s animated “Tomb Raider” series, which was recently announced.

Joey Soloway (Transparent) is still on board to direct Red Sonja.

“I have loved Red Sonja forever and I feel so honored to help shepherd her story and start this cinematic journey. There could not be a greater moment in our world for Red Sonja‘s ways of wielding power and her connection with nature and our planet,” Soloway said in a statement. “She is an ancient heroine with an epic calling, and translating that to the screen is a dream come true for me as a filmmaker. I can’t wait to collaborate with Tasha on this vision.”

Red Sonja, played by Brigitte Nielsen in the 1985 film, is a comic book heroine created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Barry Windsor-Smith for Marvel Comics back in 1973.

The current run of Red Sonja is published by Dynamite Comics.
