Directed by Abdelhamid Bouchnak, the Tunisian horror movie DACHRA is headed to U.S. theaters on July 9, and the official trailer has been debuted by Dekanalog today.

Preview the witchcraft-infused nightmare mayhem below!

“Grisly, frightening, and stuffed with howling thrills, the new Tunisian horror film Dachra won over both Frightfest and the Venice Film Festival and is finally making its stateside debut. Equal parts Midsommar and The Blair Witch ProjectDACHRA begins with a simple classroom assignment and spins through double plot twists into high-tension cannibal sorcery.”

“Sent off with a documentary video assignment, three journalism students decide to interview Mongia, seeking new clues about the cold case. Intrigued and perturbed by the deranged woman’s story, the trio take their camera to the scene of the crime deep in the woods, led by the headstrong young investigator Yassmine (Yassmine Dimassi).”

“Soon they are welcomed to a secluded, hushed village where goats have free rein and raw meat hangs drying in the wind. Captured with a minimalist color palette in Hatem Nechi’s eerie and atmospheric compositions and uncanny long takes, this foggy, isolated hamlet is the creepiest location in recent horror cinema. Daring depths of barbarity—and some seriously scary children—are around every corner.”

Distributor Dekanalog teases, “With superlative craft, first-time director Abdelhamid Bouchnak weaves together North African folklore and the tried-and-true B-movie magic that made his debut a runaway hit in his home country. DACHRA maintains a high level of suspense and sophistication with its carefully calibrated narrative, strong performances, and its genre-expanding ethereal dread.”

Yasmine Dimassi, Aziz Jbali, Bilel Slatnia, Hela Ayed, Hedi Majri, and Rahri Rahali star.

DACHRA opens in theatres and virtual cinemas nationwide on Friday, July 9.

No CGI Needed: Survival Thriller ‘Savage Hunt’ Uses a Real Grizzly Bear [Image]

The “animals attack” subgenre is getting a new installment with the upcoming Savage Hunt, a survival thriller from director Roel Reiné (Halo) that Deadline has previewed today.

The site’s report – which brings us a first-look image, seen above – notes: “The production has told us they are currently using a real grizzly bear on location as part of the shoot.”

Here’s the synopsis for the upcoming Savage Hunt: “The story follows a vengeful tracker who is brought in to hunt down a large grizzly bear, which has begun attacking humans when a new local resort begins construction, disrupting the natural habitat of the wildlife.”

“We wanted to strive for as much realism as possible, showing how powerful nature can be, and the effects of man encroaching on an animal’s natural environment,” the producers said.

“Filming with a real bear in real locations with real actors is a very complex task. The production involves a lot of stunts as well and that adds to the complexity,” producer Gabriel Georgiev added. “Roel Reine is the key element for this project. His immense talent and unique cinematic taste, along with his extensive experience make this production one of a kind. We have some amazing scenes in the can already, I can’t wait to see the finished movie.”

Film Bridge International will introduce the project to buyers at the Cannes market.
