Emma Stone Will Return in ‘Cruella’ Sequel!
Now streaming on Disney+, director Craig Gillespie‘s Cruella reimagines the origin story of 101 Dalmatians villain Cruella de Vil, with Emma Stone playing the title character. The film is a hit for Disney, and a sequel is on the way. Deadline reports that Emma Stone has officially closed a deal to return for Cruella 2, with Gillespie potentially returning to direct.
A sequel was set up at the tail end of the first movie. Cruella de Vil has now completely left her previous identity behind and become the Cruella we know, though don’t expect her to be killing and skinning any dogs in Cruella 2. This iteration of the character isn’t quite *that* evil.
Cruella pulled in over $200 million at the worldwide box office this year.
The all-new live-action feature film is about the rebellious early days of one of cinemas most notorious – and notoriously fashionable – villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil.
Cruella, which is set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, follows a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets. One day, Estella’s flair for fashion catches the eye of the Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute, played by two-time Oscar® winner Emma Thompson. But their relationship sets in motion a course of events and revelations that will cause Estella to embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable and revenge-bent Cruella.
Disney’s Cruella is directed by Craig Gillespie (I Tonya) from a screenplay by Dana Fox and Tony McNamara, story by Aline Brosh McKenna and Kelly Marcel & Steve Zissis.

Disasterpeace Returns for ‘They Follow’ Alongside Maika Monroe and Original Creative Team
Maika Monroe (Longlegs) isn’t the only one reuniting with It Follows director David Robert Mitchell on the sequel They Follow. The filmmaker revealed key collaborators are also joining the project.
Speaking with Empire, Mitchell confirmed that multiple crew members are returning for the sequel, and that it’ll feature a new score from Disasterpeace!
“Maika is back for this, and [cinematographer] Mike [Gioulakis], and the editor, Julio [C. Perez IV],” Mitchell told the outlet. “Disasterpeace will be doing a score.“
That’s great news, considering how impactful the artist’s score was on the original 2014 film. Mitchell agrees: “I wouldn’t want to do a sequel without him. That first movie is so much to do with his fantastic music, so I’m excited about seeing what he does with this.”
The filmmaker notes that he’s also proud of his script for They Follow, which will do its own thing while still being connected to the original film. Of course, plot details remain scarce at this time.
“It’s very dark,” Monroe recently teased. “We’re pushing the boundaries on this one for sure.”
In the first movie, Maika Monroe’s Jay Height is a young woman followed by an unknown supernatural force after a sexual encounter. In the sequel, the threat is now EVERYWHERE.
Naomi Ackie (Blink Twice) is reportedly joining the sequel.
NEON and Good Fear Content are producing They Follow.
