William Shatner Recalls the Time He Learned His Face Was Used for the Original Michael Myers Mask [Video]
At 90-years-old, William Shatner was launched off into space the very same week Halloween Kills was released in theaters and on Peacock, an amusing little tidbit considering the fact that the original Michael Myers mask was of course a modified Captain Kirk Halloween mask. If Shatner is the face of Michael Myers, does that mean The Shape went to space?!
The origin story of the Michael Myers mask has long been one of the more fascinating horror movie fun facts, but what does Shatner himself think of the whole thing? Speaking with Jake’s Takes, Shatner reflects on the time he learned he and Michael share a face.
“I don’t remember the exact moment, but I thought, ‘is that a joke.. are they kidding.’ And then I remember, I don’t think I saw the movie, but I saw the mask… probably in a picture,” Shatner reflects. “And I recognized it as the death mask that they had made for me… they made a mask of my face on Star Trek out of clay, so that I wouldn’t have to be available for the prosthetics that they would put on my face to look old or evil or whatever it was they were making me look like.”
Shatner continues, “So that mask existed in Star Trek, [and] somewhere along the line, someone got that mask and made a mask of it, for [the holiday] Halloween. And then the story is, ‘get me a mask, said the director’ [John Carpenter], so the guy ran into this Halloween store and grabbed this mask, and it happened to be of me. That’s the story I know.”
That is indeed the true story, and it was Tommy Lee Wallace who was tasked with turning Captain Kirk into Michael Myers. How did he do it? Watch the video down below to find out!

The project for Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes is being described as a “fast-paced thriller,” and Deadline reports today that Violett Beane (Truth or Dare) has joined the cast.
Newcomer Jacob Robinson has also signed on to star in the mysterious thriller. Previously announced, Meghann Fahy (“White Lotus”) will be leading the cast.
Landon recently teased on Twitter, “This is my love letter to DePalma.”
Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach wrote the script.
Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller and Cameron Fuller — “who brought the script in to Platinum Dunes” — are producing the upcoming Drop. Sam Lerner is an executive producer.
THR notes, “The film is a Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse production for Universal.”
