First Image of Original ‘Day of the Dead’ Cast Reunited in Upcoming ‘Night of the Living Dead 2’ [Exclusive]

As we reported earlier this year, an unofficial sequel to George A. Romero’s horror classic Night of the Living Dead is on the way with Night of the Living Dead II, which was originally teased by our friends at Rue MorgueMarcus Slabine (The Dark Offerings) is behind this “sequel,” which features Terrifier star David Howard Thornton as one of the film’s shambling undead.

Additionally, and perhaps most notably, Night of the Living Dead II will also bring back three familiar faces from another Romero classic, the sequel Day of the Dead!

Day of the Dead star Lori Cardille will be reuniting with Terry Alexander and Jarlath Conroy in the new movie, and we’re exclusively sharing your first look at the reunion today.

Cardille, Alexander and Conroy, it’s interesting to note, play three of only a small handful of surviving characters from Romero’s movies. Are they playing those same roles in NOTLD II?

Night of the Living Dead II takes place on a remote island where a small group of survivors of the zombie apocalypse take shelter, only to face fresh terror when the flesheaters find their way ashore. Sounds more like a sequel to Day of the Dead, doesn’t it?

Slabine tells us, “With Night of the Living Dead II I wanted to tell an original and engaging story with these amazing actors who haven’t been together since 1985. They are incredible and I want to showcase that just because someone is over the age of 60 doesn’t mean they can’t give a phenomenal performance. During one of Jarlath’s scenes, 2 crew members had to leave set as they were crying and almost ruining the take because of how good he was. It’s incredible to see the 3 together with all of their chemistry not skipping a beat since they were all together as well as their zombie killing abilities. We have a ton of surprises and some big name cast that we have yet to announce but are wicked excited to have apart of this and are very sure fans will be pleased. The movie is about characters first and story before anything else but it’s still going to be extremely gory and have some great twists and turns.”

Slabine will be at the CHILLER THEATRE convention in New Jersey this weekend promoting the film with Lori, Terry, and Jarlath, and will be giving out limited edition posters as well.

Terry Alexander, Allison Pittel (Dark Circles), Lori Cardille, Clifton Dunn (Terrifier) and Jarlath Conroy

Jessica Greenwald as the Siren Zombie, David Howard Thornton as Sharkbait Zombie and Benjamin Frankenberg (The Dark Offerings) as the Renegade zombie storm the shore of the island.

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has two awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

‘The Haunting of Pennhurst’ Exclusive Clip Trains Scare Actors For Historic Haunt in Tribeca Doc

The Haunting of Pennhurst Clip

The past and present collide in haunting, poignant ways in the genre documentary The Haunting of Pennhurst, which sees a Halloween haunt serve as a reclamation of true historic horrors.

Ahead of its world premiere at the 25th Tribeca Film Festival, we have an exclusive clip that sees scare actors in training for the Halloween season. The catch? This haunt is opening at the historic Pennhurst State School & Hospital site, a facility that caused immense harm to its disabled patients over decades of its operation.

In the documentary, “For over seventy years, Pennhurst State School & Hospital was called a place of care. What happened inside killed over half its population. It closed in 1987, leaving behind unmarked graves and an unresolved history. Today, on those same grounds, disabled performers – many living with the same conditions that once sent people to Pennhurst – put on their makeup, pull on their costumes, and prepare to scare people for a living.

“Through grit, compassion, and buckets of blood, the eclectic performers of the Pennhurst Asylum haunted attraction are wrestling with a space that is at once a lucrative business and a gravesite.”

The upcoming documentary hails from directing trio Nathan Stenberg, Mike Attie, and Katarina Poljak, who explore their socially-relevant subject through archival footage, first-hand accounts, and an immersive verité.

“Pennhurst has haunted us since we first passed through its dragon-tooth gates; the horrors of the institution echo through the site today. We are so grateful to bring this film to the Tribeca Festival, particularly the Escape from Tribeca section, which feels right for a story where past and present bleed together. We hope audiences leave unnerved and asking the same uncomfortable questions we did,” Attie, Stenberg, and Poljak said in a statement.

Watch the clip below that sees disabled and neurodivergent scare actors learning the ropes of a Halloween haunt, reclaiming the site’s grim history in the process.
