Warner Bros. has shifted a handful of upcoming DC movies this week, with James Wan‘s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom being one of the films moving out of this year entirely.

The Aquaman sequel had originally been set for theatrical release on December 16, 2022, but will now release nationwide in theaters on March 17, 2023.

Wan writes on Instagram, “Working nonstop, day and night (at least 15 hours each day), on my director’s cut from my home set up. Thank god for the big desk! For a movie that is nearly all visual effects, I’m thankful for the extra time needed to craft this thing right. Working with groundbreaking new technology, I’m blown away by some of the early tests coming in. I’m cautiously optimistic and excited, and can’t wait to share when the time is ready.”

Back in August of last year, Wan had noted that the Aquaman sequel is “heavily inspired by” Mario Bava’s Planet of the Vampires, so definitely expect some horror vibes from this one.

Released in 1965, Planet of the Vampires was directed by the legendary Mario Bava, and Wan is in good company taking inspiration from the film. After all, Planet of the Vampires is often cited as a heavy influence on Ridley Scott’s sci-fi/horror classic, Alien.

In that film, “After landing on a mysterious planet, a team of astronauts begin to turn on each other, swayed by the uncertain influence of the planet and its strange inhabitants.”

DC’s Black Adam and The Flash movies also have new dates today.

In addition to Leigh Whannell’s upcoming Universal Monsters movie Wolf Man, Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel) has also joined the cast of Weapons, THR has announced tonight.

Weapons is the new horror movie from New Line Cinema and director Zach Cregger (Barbarian), with Julia Garner joining the previously announced Josh Brolin (Dune 2).

The upcoming Weapons is from writer/director Zach Cregger, who will also produce alongside his Barbarian producing team: Roy Lee of Vertigo and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures. Vertigo’s Miri Yoon also produces.

The Hollywood Reporter teases, “Plot details for Weapons are being kept holstered but it is described as a multi and inter-related story horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.”

Cregger was a founding member and writer for the New York comedy troupe “The Whitest Kids U’Know,” which he started while attending The School of Visual Arts. The award-winning group’s self-titled sketch comedy show ran for five seasons on IFC-TV and Fuse. He was also a series regular on Jimmy Fallon’s NBC series “Guys with Kids” and the TBS hit series “Wrecked,” and was featured in a recurring role on the NBC series “About a Boy.”

Weapons will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
