‘Ghostbusters’ – Sony Ready to Blast More Ghosts With Fifth Movie!

Published

Huge breaking news out of the ongoing CinemaCon where Sony Pictures revealed it has plans for a fifth Ghostbusters film!

The announcement was made in the closing sizzle reel where they also confirmed that a third Venom is in the works.

Last year’s Jason Reitman-directed Ghostbusters: Afterlife was the long-awaited canonized third film in the Ghostbusters franchise that fans have been clamoring for since the release of Ghostbusters 2 in 1989.

Centering around the daughter and grandkids of Dr. Egon Spengler (the late Harold Ramis, who would be brought back to life with visual effects), Afterlife‘s post-credits sequences set the table for an endless amount of sequels, assuming the studio was to keep crossing the streams.

There’s no word on if Reitman would return to direct, although he’s indicated he’d love to pass the baton to other really cool filmmakers and allow them to bring their own unique vision to the franchise.

“We wanted to make a movie that opened the universe to all kinds of stories,” Reitman exclaimed at last year’s  New York Comic Con.  “I want to see Ghostbusters movies from all of my favorite directors and I hope this movie sets the table for them,” he added.

An animated feature film was also in development prior to Ghostbusters: Afterlife‘s release.

Little Mermaid horror

Following in the wake of Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse getting their own horror movies, Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid is the next to get the twisted treatment.

Originally published in 1837, the original tale of The Little Mermaid is now in the public domain, and MSR Media International presents their own horror version of the tale this year.

The Little Mermaid is being distributed by Grindstone Entertainment Group, and the film has officially been rated “R” this week for “Language, some violence and brief nudity.”

In the film from director Leigh Scott, “Dr. Eric Prince, an archaeologist, makes a dramatic discovery on a small Caribbean island—proof of an ancient, advanced prehistoric society. While his dig is in progress, he meets the mysterious and beautiful Aurora Bey and falls in love. Her arrival coincides with several mermaid sightings and strange disappearances.

“When Eric’s friend and mentor, Dr. Ashley, arrives on the island, Ashley uncovers the true identity of Aurora and the dangers of the hidden evil inside Eric’s dig site. Will Eric heed his friend’s advice, or will he be blinded by love and the power of the siren, allowing the world to fall to the forces of evil?”

Lydia Helen, Mike Markoff and Jeff Denton star in The Little Mermaid.

You can watch the trailer now over on MSR Media International’s website.
