First Look at ‘Daughter’, Inducted Into a Bizarre Family
Things get weird in Corey Deshon’s debut feature Daughter, a new thriller being introduced to buyers at Cannes by Yellow Veil Pictures, reports Deadline.
Casper Van Dien, Elyse Dinh, Ian Alexander and Vivien Ngô star in the pic about a young woman inducted into a bizarre family as their new surrogate daughter.
Van Dien (Starship Troopers) plays Father, Dinh (HBO’s “Watchmen”) is Mother. Alexander (“The Last of Us Part II”, “Star Trek: Discovery”, “The OA”) plays Brother and Ngô (“Queen Sugar”) marks her first feature lead turn as the titular Daughter.
Adds the site: “Described as a collaborative effort by Deshon and Ngô to challenge the confines of what creators of color are expected to produce within the limits of stereotypical genres and narrative arcs, Daughter features a diverse cast made up predominantly of Vietnamese American actors, and was filmed with an overall cast and crew consisting of 60% women and 80% people of color.”
Daughter is produced by Deshon for Thirteenth Floor Pictures, Ngô, Tracy Chitupatham, and Jes Vu; and executive produced by Sharunya Varriale, Ron Bradley, Matt Bradley, Daniel Goroshko, Laurent Fumeron and Rodolphe Sanzé from OneWorld Entertainment.
Umbrelic Entertainment has announced the upcoming horror movie The Possession at Gladstone Manor, which will be wrapping up production later this week.
The film’s cast includes Caylee Cowan (Hypnotic), Jesse Metcalf (John Tucker Must Die), Charlotte Kirk (The Reckoning), Darren Weiss (Inside Man), Barbara Crampton (You’re Next), William Mapother (Blackhat), and Lin Shaye (Insidious franchise).
In The Possession at Gladstone Manor, “When Jamie Black discovers her mother has gone missing, she resolves to investigate by applying for the same job her mother held at Gladstone Manor. Jamie soon finds evidence that her mother isn’t the only missing person, and that she may be dealing with sinister forces beyond this world.
“Desperate, she enlists the help of her brothers – Rupert and Chris – and Sam (Chris’ fiancée): all of whom are professional criminals and former marines. Once Jamie arrives at the house, she is immediately greeted by a mysterious and evil Nurse, and soon realizes the residents of Gladstone Manor are an enemy like no other, with a dark power she’s never faced. Trapped in the house, she must rely on her brothers and future sister-in-law to save her.”
Director K. Asher Levin (Dig) co-wrote the script with Danny Matier (The Unborn), from a story by Addam Bramich. Theresa Wayman from Warpaint is composing the score.
