After an almost three-year hiatus from live performances due to the ongoing pandemic, Bloody Disgusting has learned that Scripts Gone Wild returns to El Cid on Sunset on August 24th at 7pm with a reading of the Stephen King horror classic, Creepshow (1982)!

Once referred to as “LA’s best kept secret”, Scripts Gone Wild had been performing virtual reads throughout the pandemic before taking time to regroup and finalize its 501(c)3 non-profit status. CREEPSHOW is the first in a new series of quarterly performances at El Cid, each one benefiting a different charitable organization.

Headlining the read are horror legend BARBARA CRAMPTON (Re-Animator, You’re Next); star of the Sniper franchise, CHAD MICHAEL COLLINS; Mystery Science Theatre 3000’s JONAH
RAY and DEANNA ROONEY; and KIRK THATCHER, the director of Muppets Haunted Mansion. Rounding out the cast are Scripts Gone Wild favorites AARON LAPLANTE (Primal), RICO E. ANDERSON (Truth Be Told), and FRANK DIETZ (Black Roses, Zombie Nightmare).

More casting will be announced closer to the performance date.

“We couldn’t be more excited to return to live performances,” said Scripts Gone Wild Artistic Director, Billy Ray Brewton. “Our virtual reads were such an amazing way to stay connected with and grow our audience during the pandemic, but so much of what we’re known for really only translates with a live audience.”

Brewton went on to say: “We learned a lot over the pandemic and have honed the Scripts Gone Wild experience for our audiences.”

The charity being supported by this performance is National Multiple Sclerosis Society, dedicated to curing MS while empowering people affected by MS to live their best lives. All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the charity. Scripts Gone Wild will receive any donations at the event, and sales from limited edition t-shirts that will be available for purchase.

Tickets can be purchased on the official Scripts Gone Wild website.

Sleepy Hollow movie

Paramount is heading to Sleepy Hollow with a brand new feature film take on the classic Headless Horseman tale, with Lindsey Anderson Beer (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines) announced to direct the movie back in 2022. But is that project still happening, now two years later?

The Hollywood Reporter lets us know this afternoon that Paramount Pictures has renewed its first-look deal with Lindsey Anderson Beer, and one of the projects on the upcoming slate is the aforementioned Sleepy Hollow movie that was originally announced two years ago.

THR details, “Additional projects on the development slate include… Sleepy Hollow with Anderson Beer attached to write, direct, and produce alongside Todd Garner of Broken Road.”

You can learn more about the slate over on The Hollywood Reporter. It also includes a supernatural thriller titled Here Comes the Dark from the writers of Don’t Worry Darling.

The origin of all things Sleepy Hollow is of course Washington Irving’s story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” which was first published in 1819. Tim Burton adapted the tale for the big screen in 1999, that film starring Johnny Depp as main character Ichabod Crane.

More recently, the FOX series “Sleepy Hollow” was also based on Washington Irving’s tale of Crane and the Headless Horseman. The series lasted four seasons, cancelled in 2017.
