20th Century Studios has an original horror hit on their hands with Barbarian, which opened to $10 million here in the United States in its opening weekend. Positive word of mouth is largely responsible for the film’s opening weekend success, with Bloody Disgusting’s Meagan Navarro raving in her review that Barbarian is one of 2022’s biggest crowd-pleasers.

Barbarian has now been in theatrical release for 14 days here in the United States and the numbers remain strong, with the film’s domestic total now standing at $23,083,169.

Worldwide, Barbarian has scared up $24,119,359.

The even better news? Barbarian is expanding to MORE THEATERS in its third week of release, with Exhibitor Relations reporting that it’s adding 550 new screens this weekend! In total, Barbarian will be playing in 2,890 theaters in the States beginning this weekend.

20th Century Studios clearly sees the positive word-of-mouth for this one and wants to capitalize on that as much as possible on the road to Halloween, with the expansion to more theaters likely juicing the box office even further as we head into the weekend. We could easily see the film hit $30 million in the near future, which would be a huge win for original horror.

Stay tuned for more box office updates as they become available.

And watch a brand new SPOILER TRAILER below…

In Barbarian, a young woman (Georgina Campbell) traveling to Detroit for a job interview books a rental home. But when she arrives late at night, she discovers that the house is double booked, and a strange man (Bill Skarsgård) is already staying there.

Against her better judgment, she decides to spend the evening, but soon discovers that there’s a lot more to fear than just an unexpected house guest.

Written and directed by Zach Cregger, the film also stars Justin Long, Matthew Patrick Davis, Richard Brake, Kurt Braunohler and Jaymes Butler.

In addition to Leigh Whannell’s upcoming Universal Monsters movie Wolf Man, Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel) has also joined the cast of Weapons, THR has announced tonight.

Weapons is the new horror movie from New Line Cinema and director Zach Cregger (Barbarian), with Julia Garner joining the previously announced Josh Brolin (Dune 2).

The upcoming Weapons is from writer/director Zach Cregger, who will also produce alongside his Barbarian producing team: Roy Lee of Vertigo and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures. Vertigo’s Miri Yoon also produces.

The Hollywood Reporter teases, “Plot details for Weapons are being kept holstered but it is described as a multi and inter-related story horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.”

Cregger was a founding member and writer for the New York comedy troupe “The Whitest Kids U’Know,” which he started while attending The School of Visual Arts. The award-winning group’s self-titled sketch comedy show ran for five seasons on IFC-TV and Fuse. He was also a series regular on Jimmy Fallon’s NBC series “Guys with Kids” and the TBS hit series “Wrecked,” and was featured in a recurring role on the NBC series “About a Boy.”

Weapons will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
