We’ve been waiting many years for a sequel to Michael Dougherty‘s Halloween horror anthology Trick ‘r Treat, which has only become more and more popular as the years go on, and it looks like we’re closer to that finally happening. During a Beyond Fest screening of the beloved horror movie tonight, Dougherty revealed that Trick ‘r Treat 2 is in active development!

Dougherty is working with Legendary on the planned sequel to Trick ‘r Treat, and though he made sure to mention that the movie isn’t greenlit, it is in “very active development.”

This isn’t the first time plans for Trick ‘r Treat 2 have been announced, but we’re hoping this is the time that something actually happens. Stay tuned for more as we learn it.

On a related note, Trick ‘r Treat is being released in Regal theaters on October 6, and the 2009 film is also bringing Sam to select AMC Theatres locations beginning October 21!

These new showings mark the FIRST TIME the film has ever released wide in theaters.

Trick ‘r Treat features five interwoven stories that occur on Halloween…

“An everyday high school principal has a secret life as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just met the guy for her; a group of teenagers pull a mean prank; a woman who loathes the night has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband; and a mean old man meets his match with the demonic, supernatural trick-or-treater whose name is Sam.”
