M. Night Shyamalan Reveals How He Almost Connected ‘The Visit’ and ‘Glass’!

Published

M. Night Shyamalan has delivered no shortage of mind-blowing moments throughout his career – in fact, he’s made a career out of doing just that – and one of those cinematic mind-blowers came in the form of Split back in 2016. Completely out of the blue, you surely recall, Shyamalan revealed in the final moments that Split was set in the world of Unbreakable.

This surprising connection between two of Shyamalan’s movies paved the way for Glass in 2019, which served as a sequel to both Split and Unbreakable at the very same time.

As it turns out, Shyamalan played with the idea of diving even further into his own shared universe, at one point considering a connection between Glass and The Visit (2015).

There was one tie-in that I almost did. It was in Glass when they all got to the mental institution. I was going to tell a story about The Visit and how two people escaped from that same hospital. I was going to do it, but I chickened out,” Shyamalan just told THR!

That extra added twist to Glass would’ve connected Unbreakable, Split, Glass, and The Visit all in the very same universe, which needless to say would’ve been a treat for Shyamalan fans.

Will he deliver more surprise connections in the future? Only time will tell…

Up next from Shyamalan, Knock at the Cabin releases in theaters on February 3, 2023!

In addition to Leigh Whannell’s upcoming Universal Monsters movie Wolf Man, Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel) has also joined the cast of Weapons, THR has announced tonight.

Weapons is the new horror movie from New Line Cinema and director Zach Cregger (Barbarian), with Julia Garner joining the previously announced Josh Brolin (Dune 2).

The upcoming Weapons is from writer/director Zach Cregger, who will also produce alongside his Barbarian producing team: Roy Lee of Vertigo and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures. Vertigo’s Miri Yoon also produces.

The Hollywood Reporter teases, “Plot details for Weapons are being kept holstered but it is described as a multi and inter-related story horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.”

Cregger was a founding member and writer for the New York comedy troupe “The Whitest Kids U’Know,” which he started while attending The School of Visual Arts. The award-winning group’s self-titled sketch comedy show ran for five seasons on IFC-TV and Fuse. He was also a series regular on Jimmy Fallon’s NBC series “Guys with Kids” and the TBS hit series “Wrecked,” and was featured in a recurring role on the NBC series “About a Boy.”

Weapons will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
