‘Evil Dead Rise’ Wins at the Box Office and We’re Probably Getting More ‘Evil Dead’ Movies Soon

The Sam Raimi-created Evil Dead franchise continues to win at the box office with Lee Cronin’s brand new movie Evil Dead Rise, which debuted above expectations this weekend.

Released into theaters beginning with Thursday night preview screenings, Evil Dead Rise swallowed up an estimated $23.5 million at the domestic box office this weekend.

Evil Dead Rise had an estimated production budget of just $19 million, which should allow the film to become profitable at the box office in the coming weeks.

Back in 2013, Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead similarly opened to $25 million domestically, and that film ended up making $54 million domestically and $97 million worldwide.

Much like Evil Dead 2013, Evil Dead Rise is smartly accessible to general audiences as well as longtime Evil Dead fans, and the strong word of mouth from critics and fans alike should allow for the new movie to continue scaring up money these next several weeks. The best part of the film’s box office success? It was originally planned to go straight to HBO Max!

Does that mean we won’t have to wait another ten years before the next Evil Dead movie? Producer Bruce Campbell told AV Club earlier this week, “We’re going to try and do them more like every two or three years rather than every 10 years. It’s also the first time Sam is working with his brother Ivan to create an overall Bible that will give future writers and directors an idea of where this thing should go next to potentially tie in some of these stories. So I think it’s going to get a little more tied in as the years go by.”

“But because it’s all about the books. It could be a book in the past, a book in the future. It’s yet to be determined,” Campbell added in that interview.

When Evil Dead wins, we get more Evil Dead. It’s as simple as that. So get out there and support Evil Dead Rise in theaters. We promise it’s a franchise-faithful bloodbath of terror.

Meagan Navarro writes in her Evil Dead Rise review for BD, “Evil Dead Rise is an absolute crowd pleaser that’s best enjoyed with a rowdy crowd of fellow fans.”
