‘Beetlejuice 2’ – Danny Elfman Teases That He’s Returning to Compose the Score for Tim Burton Sequel

Published

It looks like Beetlejuice 2 is FINALLY taking shape after years of rumors, with Jenna Ortega (“Wednesday,” Scream VI) joining Michael Keaton in the upcoming sequel.

Tim Burton is also expected to return to direct Beetlejuice 2 for Warner Bros., and it sounds like original Beetlejuice composer Danny Elfman is coming back as well.

Elfman tells Deadline this week, “I love being a fly on the wall when [Tim’s] shooting. I’ll be doing that in a couple of months, as you may know, on another Tim Burton project.”

“That is very exciting, to return to that world,” Elfman adds.

Elfman also teases of the upcoming sequel, “It’s perfect, you know? Everybody else has to play the next generation, except for Michael [Keaton]. I mean, he’s still like really fit and really active and really on it. And with the Beetlejuice makeup, I can’t even imagine it’s going to look like he’s changed practically at all. So, I can’t wait for that.”

No word yet on whether or not Winona Ryder will be back as Lydia Deetz, but the rumor is that Jenna Ortega is playing the daughter of Lydia Deetz in the upcoming sequel.

The original Beetlejuice was directed by Burton in 1988 and has become a cult favorite. It starred Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis as ghosts who haunt their old home. When a little girl (Winona Ryder) accidentally unleashes a mischievous ghost (Michael Keaton), the ghosts try to drive the homeowners (Catherine O’Hara and Jeffrey Jones) out of the house.

Dan Stevens is everywhere lately, from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire to Abigail and the upcoming Cuckoo. We’re not complaining. Up next? He’s starring in horror movie The Ritual.

Al Pacino and Dan Stevens have both joined the cast of the upcoming exorcism horror movie from XYZ Films and director David Midell, Variety reports this afternoon.

Based on a true story, the film “follows two priests — one questioning his faith (Stevens) and one reckoning with a troubled past (Pacino) — who must put aside their differences to save a possessed young woman through a difficult and dangerous series of exorcisms.”

Variety details, “The film is an authentic portrayal of Emma Schmidt, an American woman whose demonic possession culminated in harrowing exorcisms. Her case remains the most thoroughly documented exorcism in American history.”

David Midell and Enrico Natale wrote the screenplay for The Ritual.

XYZ Films is planning to release the horror film theatrically in 2025.
