Beetlejuice 2 - wedding set photos

Filming is now underway on Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 2 over in England, and People has shared some photos from the set this week that casts an illuminating light on what Winona Ryder‘s Lydia Deetz and her daughter (Jenna Ortega) may be up to in the anticipated sequel.

Don’t scroll down if you’d like to be surprised, but the image above from the Tim Burton’s original film gives a hint on potential plot points in the upcoming sequel.

Ryder’s Lydia Deetz was of course the central protagonist in the 1988 classic, and her iconic goth-black hair with pointed bangs is back in action in these early sneak peek shots.

Warner Bros. brings the sequel to theaters on September 6, 2024.

Ortega (“Wednesday,” Scream VI) is joining Michael Keaton in the long-awaited sequel, with Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara both returning.

Monica Bellucci (Irreversible) will be playing Beetlejuice’s wife!

No word yet on plot details, but it’s known that Jenna Ortega will be playing the daughter of Lydia Deetz. It seems like daughter might be following in mom’s footsteps with a wedding, but her happy smiles indicate her husband-to-be likely won’t be Beetlejuice.

Keaton recently said, “We’re doing it exactly like we did the first movie. There’s a woman in the great waiting room for the afterlife literally with a fishing line – I want people to know this because I love it – tugging on the tail of a cat to make it move.”

Willem Dafoe and Justin Theroux recently joined the cast as well, with frequent Burton collaborator Danny Elfman coming back to compose the film’s score.

The original Beetlejuice was directed by Burton in 1988 and has become a cult favorite. It starred Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis as ghosts who haunt their old home. When a little girl (Winona Ryder) accidentally unleashes a mischievous ghost (Michael Keaton), the ghosts try to drive the homeowners (Catherine O’Hara and Jeffrey Jones) out of the house.
