Good Boy movie

From Saban Films and writer/director Viljar Bøe, the bizarre new movie Good Boy is now playing in select theaters, and it was also released onto Digital and On Demand today.

In the film, “Sigrid thinks she’s met her perfect match with the charming and handsome Christian, but there is one catch- he lives with a man who acts like his pet dog.

“Trying to be open-minded, Sigrid continues the relationship but soon notices an insidious under-tone to Christian. Maybe ‘puppy play’ isn’t as innocent as it seems.”

Gard Løkke, Katrine Lovise Øpstad Fredriksen, Amalie Willoch Njaastad, and Nicolai Narvesen Lied star in Good Boy, rated “R” for “violent content and language.”

Blood Flower

Malaysian filmmaker Dain Said’s horror film Blood Flower (Harum Malam) premiered at Fantastic Fest last year, and the film is now streaming exclusively over on Shudder.

“The film tells the story of a 16-year-old apprentice faith healer and exorcist, who is tormented by visions of the dead and spirits from other dimensions. When a malicious spirit begins to wreak havoc around him, the teenaged exorcist is forced to harness his supernatural gifts to save his family and friends.”

Idan Aedan, Bront Palarae and Remy Ishak star in Blood Flower. The film is produced by Malaysia’s Apparat in collaboration with Skop Productions and D’Ayu Pictures.

Dain Said, Nandita Solomon and Ben Omar wrote the script.

From the award-winning team behind Hellier comes The Unbinding, a terrifying new feature-length documentary that will challenge everything you thought you knew about ghosts.

The Unbinding is now available on VOD outlets.

“When two hikers remove a mysterious wooden statue from a cave in New York’s Catskill Mountains, they become the target of frightening paranormal phenomena. As the activity escalates, occult researchers Dana and Greg Newkirk (Hellier, Kindred Spirits) are called to uncover the truth behind the haunted object known as THE CRONE.”

The documentary feature was directed by Karl Pfeiffer (Hellier).

Daphné Baiwir’s feature documentary King on Screen got a limited theatrical release from Dark Star back in August, and the film is now available On Demand today.

“1976, Brian de Palma directs Carrie, the first novel by Stephen King. Since then, more than 50 directors have adapted the master of horror’s books, in more than 80 films and series, making him the most adapted author alive in the world. What’s so fascinating about him that filmmakers cannot stop adapting his works?

“Director Daphné Baiwir’s King on Screen reunites the filmmakers that have adapted Stephen King’s books for cinema and TV, including Frank Darabont (Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, The Walking Dead), Tom Holland (The Langoliers, Chucky), Mick Garris (The Stand, Sleepwalkers) and Taylor Hackford (Dolores Claiborne, Ray). It is a movie made for the fans and with the fans, led by an international ambition.”

Interview subjects also include Mike Flanagan, Vincenzo Natali, Greg Nicotero, Mark L. Lester, Dee Wallace, Tim Curry and James Caan.

Two couples escape for a weekend getaway in the desert only to find their Airbnb is already occupied in 8 Found Dead, which Dark Sky Films released onto VOD outlets today.

In the film from director Travis Greene

“Two couples head to a secluded desert hideaway for a weekend of relaxation and, unbeknownst to their friends, uneasy revelations. When they arrive, each couple is met by the same eccentric couple, claiming to have booked the rental on the same day at the same time.

“As two local police officers are drawn into the evening’s strange and unpredictable events, depravity and derangement begin to consume everyone at the house. What begins as miscommunication soon descends in mayhem and bloody murder.”

Aly Trasher (What’s My Name Again?), Alisha Soper (American Horror Story), William Gabriel Grier (The Stalking Fields), Eddy Acosta (5 Years Gone), Rosanne Limeres (1000 Ways to Die), Tim Simek (Viral), and Nancy Linehan Charles (Minority Report) star.

My Animal

Amandla Stenberg (Bodies Bodies Bodies) leads the horror movie My Animal, which Paramount brings to theaters this weekend. The film will hit Digital outlets next Friday.

My Animal, the feature debut of director Jacqueline Castel, has been rated “R” for: “Language throughout, sexual content, nudity, some drug use and violence.”

Amandla Stenberg stars in the new horror movie alongside Bobbi Salvör Menuez, Stephen Mchattie, Heidi Von Palleske, Cory Lipman, and Joe Apollonio.

“Heather, an outcast teenage goalie, longs to play on the hockey team of her small town. She meets and falls in love with newcomer Jonny, an alluring but tormented figure skater. The relationship blossoms despite Heather’s struggles with her alcoholic mother, her hidden sexual orientation, and a familial curse that transforms her into a feral wolf under the full moon. Heather and Jonny’s secret tryst soon clashes against the conformity of their small community, exposing dangerous truths and igniting a passionate, violent night of personal transformation.”

Jae Matthews wrote the screenplay.

Meagan Navarro wrote in her Sundance review for BD, “My Animal defies easy categorization. The genre-bender combines horror, romance, and a strong emphasis on drama, culminating in a stylish, fascinating coming-of-age story. It operates on mood and emotion, using the werewolf mythos as a metaphor for Heather’s budding sexuality.”

The ultra-violent horror movie Megalomaniac (read Meagan’s review) premiered at Fantasia last year, and Dark Star Pictures brings it to select U.S. theaters beginning today.

Winner of the top Jury Prize (Best Feature) at the Fantasia Film Festival, this brutal and dark serial killer film utilizes the backdrop of an unsolved true crime.

With Megalomaniac, prolific filmmaker Karim Ouelhaj, Méliès d’Or winner for The Frozen Eye (2016), brings us his fourth feature and by far his most savage.

In the film, “Martha and Félix are the children of the Butcher of Mons, a notorious Belgian serial killer from the 1990s. Unstable and riddled with insecurities, Martha lives vicariously through social media. Her brother, crushed by the family legacy, takes over their father’s killings. Harassed and violently assaulted at work, the docile Martha falls into madness and goes through the looking glass into the strange and terrifying world inhabited by her brother.”
