‘The Nun II’ Tops the Box Office With $85 Million Worldwide Opening

For the first time since her original Conjuring Universe spinoff movie in 2018, modern horror icon Valak is back up on the big screen in The Nun II, now playing in theaters nationwide.

Here in the United States, The Nun II debuted with $32.6 million in 3,728 theaters, while the horror sequel’s worldwide debut brings the film to $85.3 million in just a matter of days.

The Nun II is sure to cross $100 million worldwide later this week, which will make it yet another financial success for the long-running, billion dollar Conjuring Universe franchise.

But how does The Nun II‘s opening weekend stack up against its predecessor? Back in 2018, The Nun debuted to $53.8 million here in the United States, and it went on to become the most financially successful movie in the entire Conjuring Universe to date. The original movie’s worldwide total reached $365.5 million, a high The Nun II will also aspire to reach.

But for now, The Nun II is at the top of the domestic box office charts, once again proving that Valak has the power to put asses in seats. What’s next from the Conjuring Universe?

In The Nun II, now playing in theaters, “1956 – France. A priest is murdered. An evil is spreading. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit THE NUN follows SISTER IRENE as she once again comes face to face with the demonic force VALAK – THE DEMON NUN.”

Taissa Farmiga is back as Sister Irene, with Bonnie Aarons again playing the demonic nun known as Valak. Storm Reid (“Euphoria”) also joins the Conjuring Universe in this one.

Michael Chaves (Curse of La Llorona, Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) directed The Nun II.

‘Longlegs’ – New Poster for Nicolas Cage Horror Movie Promises New Trailer Next Week

“You could have made nice but you didn’t. And that has led to all of this.” That’s the cryptic tweet NEON sent out this afternoon in regards to the hotly anticipated upcoming horror movie Longlegs, and they’ve also promised that a new trailer arrives NEXT WEEK.

Longlegs heads to theaters on July 12, 2024.

The upcoming serial killer horror movie marks the return of director Osgood Perkins (The Blackcoat’s Daughter, Gretel & Hansel). Nicolas Cage stars alongside Maika Monroe, with Monroe playing an FBI agent and Cage playing a serial killer.

Longlegs is said to be “in the vein of classic Hollywood psychological thrillers.”

In the film, “FBI Agent Lee Harker (Monroe) is a gifted new recruit assigned to the unsolved case of an elusive serial killer (Cage). As the case takes complex turns, unearthing evidence of the occult, Harker discovers a personal connection to the merciless killer and must race against time to stop him before he claims the lives of another innocent family.”

Alicia Witt (“The Walking Dead”) and Blair Underwood (“American Crime Story”) also star.

The film is rated “R” for “Bloody violence, disturbing images and some language.”

Producers are Nicolas Cage along with his production company Saturn Films (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Pig), Dan Kagan (Significant Other), Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Insidious), Dave Caplan (The End We Start From) and Chris Ferguson (Child’s Play).
