Netflix ‘BioShock’ Writer Michael Green Says Adaptation Still Being Written, But “Optimistic” About the Project

With the recent rumours about the next BioShock game, you’re probably wondering just what’s going on with the upcoming Netflix film adaptation that’s being helmed by Francis Lawrence. With the writer’s strike now over, Blade Runner 2049 scripter Michael Green dropped in for an interview with Collider to talk about the film’s status.

While Green couldn’t reveal much (“You have to measure your words, or you’ll start to see a laser pointer at my forehead from the Netflix legal”), he very much confirmed that the project is back in motion after the strike. “Netflix has been amazing about it. They were excited about it before the strike, they’re excited about it now, post-strike.”

Green says that he’s been meeting regularly with Francis Lawrence and his team to refine the film’s draft, saying that the they’re “optimistic” about the adaptation. “It’s a great big sprawling nightmare world we wanna see real. So, here’s hoping. I would love to have an update for you soon.”

Last August, when the film was announced, Netflix and BioShock publisher Take-Two Interactive stated that they had plans to develop “a potential cinematic universe” based around the franchise, which hasn’t seen a new entry since 2013’s BioShock Infinite.

Currently, the fourth BioShock game is in development over at Cloud Chamber, which was initially revealed to be in development back in 2019.
