This is it, kids. Halloween is here. This means it’s time to cram in every last bit of Halloween festivities and celebrations, and that naturally includes watching more Halloween set horror. By late October, chances are high that you’ve already exhausted the more familiar picks, like the Halloween or Night of the Demons franchises. So, this week’s horror streaming picks dig a little deeper to present some less obvious choices for your Halloween movie marathons.

Whether you’re in the mood for fun horror, deep cuts, recent faves or pretty much anything in between, these ten Halloween-set horror movies offer something for everyone.

Cemetery of Terror – AMC+, Shudder

Rubén Galindo Jr.’s most prominent horror feature is the American-influenced Don’t Panic (available on Shudder), but the Halloween-centric Cemetery of Terror offers the most fun. A trio of college kids decides to impress their ladies by stealing a body from a morgue for a Halloween prank and party in an abandoned house. It happens to be the body of a serial killer, and reading an incantation from a book revives it. This supernatural slasher brings bloody mayhem in the vein of Lucio Fulci and features legendary character actor Hugo Stiglitz as the occult expert.

Dark Night of the Scarecrow – AMC+, Midnight Pulp, Peacock, Shudder, Roku, Vudu

Don’t let the simplicity of this made-for-TV movie fool you; Dark Night of the Scarecrow is compelling storytelling. Set in a small Southern town over the Halloween season, a mentally challenged man is wrongfully murdered for a crime he didn’t commit. When his murderers evade justice, a mysterious scarecrow systematically takes them out one by one. Halloween décor, scarecrows, farmland, and a fantastic performance by horror stalwart Larry Drake make for one perfect Halloween season movie.

Deadstream – AMC+, Shudder

The feature directorial debut from husband-and-wife filmmaking couple Vanessa and Joseph Winter follows a disgraced internet personality who attempts to win back his followers by livestreaming one night alone in a haunted house. It’s perfect for Halloween; disgraced YouTuber Shawn (Joseph Winters) gets decked out in holiday gear as he introduces his latest stunt as a Halloween event. Messing with the supernatural during their most threatening time of year? Whatever could go wrong? The Winters channel Sam Raimi in their delightfully gonzo horror-comedy full of bodily fluids, gore, and ghostly creatures.

HeBGB TV – SCREAMBOX

Much like the effortlessly charming WNUF Halloween Special, HeBGB TV takes an experimental approach to spooky season fun through the lens of retro television viewing. Here, a multidimensional cable box installs itself into a neighborhood and, slowly, the world. A pair of young siblings get whisked away on a journey through various channels of comedic horror mayhem, leading to no shortage of creativity as viewers encounter infomercials, sketches, news reports, music clips, and more for an infectiously nostalgic and charming DIY feature. 

I Am Not a Serial Killer – AMC+

John Wayne Cleaver (Max Records) adheres to a strict therapy regimen and rules to ward off his sociopathic, homicidal impulses. His darker nature makes him deeply curious when a string of murders ensues in his small midwestern town, leaving behind traces of black goo. This adaptation of Dan Wells’ novel offers a unique blend of supernatural mystery and a sweet yet strange coming-of-age tale. While it doesn’t wholly embrace Halloween, the holiday does factor into the film’s events. Christopher Lloyd also stars.

Last Night in Soho – freevee

Last Night in Soho takes us back to London’s Soho district during the Swinging Sixties, with Thomasin McKenzie starring as a fashion designer who uncovers a murder from the past. The victim? Anya Taylor-Joy’s Sandie, a singer from the ’60s. Edgar Wright’s time-hopping psychological horror movie takes place over fashion school’s Fall term, which means Halloween plays a prominent role in at least one significant scare sequence. Expect lavish production design and great performances by its leads, with a tonal shift once the ghostly second half arrives.

Neon Maniacs – Plex

This ‘80s monsters fest features a group of homicidal monsters that live under the Golden Gate Bridge by day but come out at night to slaughter. When a teen escapes their clutches, they spend the rest of the film hunting her down and killing anyone in their path. Each monster has a personality and costume of his own, from samurai to mad doctor, which makes their final battle set during the high school Halloween dance a perfect cover. Creatures, silliness, and an ‘80s synth score are a perfect complement to the holiday backdrop and a great Halloween party viewing entry.

Pet Sematary Two – Max

Director Mary Lambert took this sequel in a weirder, campier direction. Whether you love or hate it, one thing is for sure: Clancy Brown steals this movie. Brown plays Gus, the ruthless and vindictive town sheriff who takes pleasure in making those around him suffer. It’s on Halloween night that Gus shifts from bully into full-blown monstrous menace. Pet Sematary Two is a flawed film with weird story logic and cheesy dialogue, but it’s also ballsy and fun. Gory practical effects, B-movie entertainment, and set around Halloween? It’s a recipe for spooky season fun.

Scream VI – Paramount+

Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Scream, Ready or Not) continue their streak of hitting that perfect blend of suspenseful thrills and biting humor. Here, the filmmakers up the ante, delivering inventive, edge-of-your-seat set pieces that showcase the urban setting and how savage Ghostface is this round. The kills are merciless and visceral, and the chase sequences are impressive and plentiful. It’s also surprising how this sequel engages with Scream 2 in plot and theme. Scream VI also happens to take place around Halloween, with Halloween parties and costumes playing a prominent role in the horror.

Trick or Treat – SCREAMBOX

Frequently considered the pinnacle of heavy metal horror, Trick or Treat is now available on streaming for the very first time. Which means it’s required viewing this Halloween. Following the death of his heavy metal idol, a bullied teenage boy inadvertently discovers a way to resurrect the rocker. After hearing the news of his hero’s death, Eddie Weinbauer (Marc Price) finds himself in possession of a one-of-a-kind item, the final recording of Sammi Curr (Tony Fields). When Eddie plays the record backward, unwittingly unleashing his idol’s demonic side. With an earworm score and Halloween heavy metal mayhem, throw up some devil horns and enjoy the ride.
