Emmy Award nominee Sydney Sweeney (“The White Lotus”, “Euphoria”) will star in the upcoming “gripping psychological horror” film Immaculate, and it’s been acquired for release by Award-winning studio NEON.

The film reunites Sweeney with director Michael Mohan (The Voyeurs), who directed from a script by Andrew Lobel.  Principal photography finished earlier this year; NEON is planning a theatrical release.

No date has been announced just yet.

Immaculate also stars Simona Tabasco (“The White Lotus”), Alvaro Morte (“Money Heist”), Benedetta Porcaroli (“Baby”), and Dora Romano (The Hand of God).

Sweeney stars in Immaculate as “Cecilia, a woman of devout faith who is offered a fulfilling new role at an illustrious Italian convent. Her warm welcome to the picture-perfect Italian countryside is soon interrupted as it becomes clearer to Cecilia that her new home harbors some dark and horrifying secrets.”

The actor most recently appeared in horror films Night Teeth and Nocturne, and will next appear in Madame Web.

Sweeney and Jonathan Davino will produce for Fifty-Fifty Films alongside David Bernad (The Mule, “The White Lotus”), who developed the project with Sweeney following their collaboration on the Emmy-winning “The White Lotus,” along with Teddy Schwarzman and Michael Heimler producing for Black Bear.

Black Bear’s John Friedberg and Christopher Casanova will executive produce along with Will Greenfield (“Euphoria”).

NEON & Black Bear are also collaborating on Osgood Perkins’ Longlegs starring Nicolas Cage and Maika Monroe. NEON is also behind the recently announced sequel They Follow from writer/director David Robert Mitchell.

Stay tuned for additional details on Immaculate as they arrive.

Horror journalist, RT Top Critic, and Critics Choice Association member. Has appeared on PBS series' Monstrum, served on the SXSW Midnighter shorts jury, and moderated horror panels for WonderCon, SeriesFest, and Popcorn Frights Film Fest.

Maika Monroe (Longlegs) and director David Robert Mitchell are reuniting for It Follows sequel They Follow, and Deadline brings us the latest casting news this week.

Jackie Earle Haley (Little Children, A Nightmare on Elm Street), Justine Lupe (Succession), Anna Mirodin (Ivan), Jayne Taini (Unbelievable), Michael Gandolfini (Daredevil: Born Again), Tom Pecinka (Stereophonic), Melora Walters (Magnolia), Ben Krieger (Song Sung Blue), Natalie Shinnick (The Brutalist) and Jan Hoag (The Fabelmans) have joined the cast this week.

Naomi Ackie (Blink Twice) has also been confirmed to join They Follow.

Deadline notes in their report this afternoon, “Plot details for the long-anticipated sequel are under wraps, other than it taking place a decade after the events of the original film.”

They Follow is expected to enter production this Summer. Stay tuned for updates.

In the first movie, Maika Monroe’s Jay Height is a young woman followed by an unknown supernatural force after a sexual encounter. In the sequel, the threat is now EVERYWHERE.

“It’s very dark,” Monroe recently teased. “We’re pushing the boundaries on this one for sure.”

“It’s very different from the original,” Monroe told Discussing Film. “The original is a little more heightened and dramatic, and this is really quite grounded and follows the story of these two women that are mentally dealing with a lot. I thought it was really an interesting take on it.”

NEON and Good Fear Content are producing They Follow.

They Follow will feature a new score from Disasterpeace.
