‘Sasqua: The Lost Bigfoot Film of Massachusetts’ – Awesome Poster for Doc About ’70s Horror Movie We’ve Never Seen

Published

on

You’ve probably never heard of the Bigfoot horror movie Sasqua, made and released in the 1970s but completely lost to the sands of time. It’s a story that filmmaker John Campopiano (Pennywise: The Story of ITSnapper: The Man-Eating Turtle Movie That Never Got Made) is gearing up to tell in Sasqua: The Lost Bigfoot Film of Massachusetts, a new documentary that’s coming soon from production company Chapman Productions.

What’s the latest on this unique project, you might be wondering?

Campopiano updates this week, “In late 2023, the team wrapped production on interviews and filming for the documentary. Since that time we’ve engaged an incredibly talented full-time editor, Sean Tiedeman, to help us bring the story and film to life. A composer I’ve worked with before on several previous documentaries, Sean Schafer Hennessy, is back again to provide some original music. In addition, we’ve also partnered with the amazingly skilled artist, Adam Perocchi, who has created a truly beautiful poster design for us – we couldn’t be happier with it.”

Meanwhile, our entire team is working away on the film and we’re on track to have it completed and out in the world later in 2024,” Campopiano continues. “This story has taken many twists and turns since we started two years ago and we’re all just so thrilled for viewers to step back into 1970s Lowell, Massachusetts and enjoy the wild ride.”

Described by The Boston Globe as “an obscure horror movie about a hippie commune attacked by cryptids,” the elusive Sasqua has never seen the light of day outside of a brief and localized theatrical release back in the 1970s, and Campopiano set out to uncover as much information, and as many relevant interview subjects, as he possibly can.

The film itself, unfortunately, is considered completely and entirely lost at this point in time, with only very grainy old trailer footage surfacing on YouTube over the years. Directed by Channon Scot, Sasqua was filmed in and around Lowell, Massachusetts in the early 1970s, and Campopiano’s ultimate dream is to not only tell the story but also find the missing film.

Coming soon, Sasqua: The Lost Bigfoot Film of Massachusetts looks to be a sort of spiritual companion piece to Snapper: The Man-Eating Turtle Movie That Never Got Made, which is now streaming on SCREAMBOX. Campopiano has a clear passion for regional horror cinema that’s fallen through the cracks over the years, becoming a sort of cinema cryptozoologist.

The Executive Producers on Sasqua: The Lost Bigfoot Film of Massachusetts are Joe and Libby Chapman of Chapman Productions, and is in association with The Luna Theater. The documentary is directed by John Campopiano, written and produced by John Campopiano and Matt Spry, and co-produced by Edward S. Read.

The Birthday Murders: Viral Marketing Website Launches for ‘Longlegs’

Published

on

NEON has been absolutely slaying the marketing game for their horror output this year, and they’re kicking the Longlegs campaign into high gear with one more month until release.

A cryptic ad in The Seattle Times today (seen below) has led clever horror fans to discover TheBirthdayMurders.net, the brand new official viral marketing website for Longlegs.

The in-universe website details the victims of the serial killer known as Longlegs (Nicolas Cage), described as a “Satan-worshipping psycho” who has terrorized families throughout the Pacific Northwest for nearly three decades.

The website details, “A bloody trail of bodies here in the great state of Oregon attests to the depraved savagery of this one-of-a-kind serial killer. With over three dozen victims that we know of, LONGLEGS is one of the most prolific mass murderers ever to have graced the region, and his gruesome endeavors are the stuff of nightmares. At first, all of the killings appeared to be straightforward murder-suicides: the handiwork of average men who suddenly snapped and slaughtered their wives and children. But a series of eerie coded messages left at the crime scenes indicate that someone – or something – is influencing these horrific crimes. The cryptic letters are signed by someone calling himself LONGLEGS.”

“With thirty-eight kills to his name, LONGLEGS has torn apart the lives of eleven different families throughout the Beaver State. His victims were good people: honest fathers, decent mothers, innocent little children.”

The website is loaded with secrets, clues, and gruesome (faux) crime scene photos, and you might even find a mention of yours truly nestled in there. Poke around. Stay a while.

Longlegs arrives in theaters July 12.

The upcoming serial killer horror movie marks the return of director Osgood Perkins (The Blackcoat’s Daughter, Gretel & Hansel). Nicolas Cage stars alongside Maika Monroe, with Monroe playing an FBI agent and Cage playing a serial killer.

In the film, “FBI Agent Lee Harker (Monroe) is a gifted new recruit assigned to the unsolved case of an elusive serial killer (Cage). As the case takes complex turns, unearthing evidence of the occult, Harker discovers a personal connection to the merciless killer and must race against time to stop him before he claims the lives of another innocent family.

The film is rated “R” for “Bloody violence, disturbing images and some language.”
