Lisa Frankenstein review

We’re celebrating the theatrical release of horror-comedy Lisa Frankenstein with #1989Week all week long here on Bloody Disgusting, and the wait for the movie is almost over.

Directed by Zelda Williams and written by Diablo Jody (Juno, Jennifer’s Body), Lisa Frankenstein will dig up someone special in movie theaters nationwide on February 9.

To whet your appetite, Diablo Cody has presented us with a hugely interesting revelation this week: Lisa Frankenstein takes place in the same world as Jennifer’s Body?!

“I am just declaring that this movie takes place in the same universe,” Cody tells Deadline. “I have decided that. I will not say that you’d see any overt references to that but I’m saying it.”

On a related note, Cody recently told Bloody Disgusting that she’s “not done” with the world of Jennifer’s Body. And if she has her way, she’ll be writing a sequel at some point soon.

YES! I wanna do a sequel,” Cody excitedly admits. “I am not done with Jennifer’s Body. I just need to find… I need to partner with people who believe it in as much as I do and that hasn’t really happened yet. I need someone to believe in it who has a billion dollars.”

Kathryn Newton (Freaky) and Cole Sprouse (“Riverdale”) are leading the cast for Focus Features, and the film is rated “PG-13” for “bloody images and sexual material.”

Carla Gugino (The Fall of the House of Usher), Liza Soberano (Alone/Together), Joe Chrest (Stranger Things) and Henry Eikenberry (The Crowded Room) also star.

In Lisa Frankenstein, “Set in 1989, the film follows an unpopular high schooler who accidentally re-animates a handsome Victorian corpse during a lightning storm and starts to rebuild him into the man of her dreams using the broken tanning bed in her garage.”

Here’s a new official plot synopsis: “A coming of RAGE love story about a misunderstood teenager and her high school crush, who happens to be a handsome corpse. After a set of playfully horrific circumstances bring him back to life, the two embark on a murderous journey to find love, happiness… and a few missing body parts along the way.”

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

No CGI Needed: Survival Thriller ‘Savage Hunt’ Uses a Real Grizzly Bear [Image]

The “animals attack” subgenre is getting a new installment with the upcoming Savage Hunt, a survival thriller from director Roel Reiné (Halo) that Deadline has previewed today.

The site’s report – which brings us a first-look image, seen above – notes: “The production has told us they are currently using a real grizzly bear on location as part of the shoot.”

Here’s the synopsis for the upcoming Savage Hunt: “The story follows a vengeful tracker who is brought in to hunt down a large grizzly bear, which has begun attacking humans when a new local resort begins construction, disrupting the natural habitat of the wildlife.”

“We wanted to strive for as much realism as possible, showing how powerful nature can be, and the effects of man encroaching on an animal’s natural environment,” the producers said.

“Filming with a real bear in real locations with real actors is a very complex task. The production involves a lot of stunts as well and that adds to the complexity,” producer Gabriel Georgiev added. “Roel Reine is the key element for this project. His immense talent and unique cinematic taste, along with his extensive experience make this production one of a kind. We have some amazing scenes in the can already, I can’t wait to see the finished movie.”

Film Bridge International will introduce the project to buyers at the Cannes market.
