In the wake of last year’s Emmy winning spinoff movie Prey, Deadline reports today that director Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane, Prey) will be expanding upon the Predator franchise even further with the upcoming Badlands, another standalone Predator movie!

Trachtenberg is on board to write and direct Badlands.

Deadline reports, “The film is a high priority for the studio and sources say Trachtenberg and execs are already meeting with talent for the lead role.”

The site’s report continues, “Plot details are being kept under wraps other than it featuring everyone’s favorite extraterrestrial big game hunter. It is also not known about release plans as the last film exclusively streamed on Hulu (breaking numerous viewerships records for the streamer) but given that 20th Century has been very much back in the theatrical game with films like Boogeyman and the upcoming Alien: Romulus film bowing in theaters, a theatrical premiere isn’t out of the question.”

Deadline also suggests that 20th Century Studios is all-in on expanding the Predator universe with additional projects, and a direct sequel to Prey is also being discussed at this time.

Filming on Badlands could kick off as early as this year. Stay tuned for more.

Amber Midthunder stars in Hulu’s Prey as a Comanche woman who goes against gender norms and traditions to become a warrior, bravely taking down a Predator in the process.

Prey was nominated in six Emmys categories this year, including Outstanding TV Movie, and it took home one award during the Creative Arts Emmys at the start of the year.

Prey won the award for “Outstanding Sound Editing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie,” officially making the Predator saga an Emmy-winning horror franchise.
