Maisy Stella Joins the Cast of Mysterious Bad Robot Film from ‘It Follows’ Director

Maisy Stella - Bad Robot mystery film

David Robert Mitchell (It Follows) is at the helm of a mysterious new genre movie for Bad Robot and Warner Bros., starring Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway. Per Variety, Sundance breakout star Maisy Stella (My Old Ass) has nabbed the third lead role.

Maisy Stella joins previously announced cast members Ewan McGregor (Doctor Sleep) and Anne Hathaway (Colossal).

Plot details remain tightly guarded since the project was announced, but the movie is categorized as a thriller. Considering Bad Robot is behind the Cloverfield films, Overlord, Super 8, and more, it feels safe to presume the untitled project will be a genre thriller of some sort.

Originally reported by Jeff Sneider and John Rocha on their show “The Hot Mic” last year, the mysterious new project is reportedly set in the 1980s… and features dinosaurs?! If so, Hathaway’s turn in Colossal might make her well poised to take on the prehistoric beasts. For now, though, these details haven’t been confirmed.

David Robert Mitchell will direct from his original script and will produce alongside J.J. Abrams and Hannah Minghella for Bad Robot and Matt Jackson of Jackson Pictures. Jake Weiner and Chris Bender of Good Fear Content will serve as executive producers. Sheila Walcott and Zach Hamby will oversee for the Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group.

The untitled film will be shot in IMAX and is expected to head into production this year.

Add this Bad Robot production to the list of things to get excited about. David Robert Mitchell  is also returning to the world of It Follows with the upcoming They Follow, which will bring Maika Monroe back as Jay Height.

Stay tuned for more on about this untitled new film from Bad Robot and David Robert Mitchel as we learn it.

‘MaXXXine’ – Mia Goth Takes Hollywood in New Image from Ti West’s Sequel

Published

One of this summer’s most hotly anticipated new movies is A24 and Ti West’s MaXXXine, a follow-up to X and Pearl that brings Mia Goth’s title character into the 1980s.

With her past catching up to her, Maxine attempts to make it big as a superstar in Hollywood, 1985. While you wait, check out a new image below courtesy of USA Today this week.

Releasing in theaters on July 5, 2024, MaXXXine is rated “R” for…

“Strong violence, gore, sexual content, graphic nudity, language and drug use.”

If you missed the official trailer, you can watch it right here.

Mia Goth stars alongside Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Halsey, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito and Kevin Bacon in MaXXXine.

Here’s the official plot synopsis from A24 this week: “In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break. But as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past.”

Last we saw Maxine in Ti West’s X (2022), she was the sole survivor of a massacre carried out by elderly couple Howard and Pearl in the Summer of ’79. Goth of course pulled double duty as the villain Pearl in that movie, who got her own origin story in Pearl (2022). Pearl and Maxine are different characters, but they share the common goal of wanting to be stars.

Will Maxine finally make it in Hollywood? Or will the demons of her past become her ultimate downfall? With the Night Stalker roaming free, we expect MaXXXine to get wild this summer.
