Fresh off last year’s bloody and disgusting horror movie Holy Shit! – now streaming on SCREAMBOX – director Lukas Rinker is back with the upcoming creature feature Paws.

Variety reports this week that “The Playmaker has signed with Neopol Film to handle international sales” on the project, but that’s not the most noteworthy aspect of their report.

The website teases that the upcoming Paws will feature “polar bear creature animatronics from the renowned studio behind Star Wars and Jurassic World“!

Check out early sales art below and read on for everything you need to know.

“The film tells the story of a climate researcher stranded in the Arctic who must forge an unlikely alliance with a polar bear in order to survive.”

Here’s the full plot synopsis: “A ship crashes in the Arctic, leaving climate researcher Tessa and her team stranded. Searching for help inside an abandoned tanker-wreckage, they stumble upon a starved polar bear, looking to protect her cub and feed on the survivors.

“To make matters worse, Tessa’s team betrays her honorable cause and probes the deep sea for potential oil fields, perceiving her as an expendable threat to their greedy scheme. Now Tessa’s only chance of survival and to protect this eco-system is an uneasy alliance with the equally endangered Mama bear.”

Rinker teases, “Being trapped on an ice-field with no help in sight, freezing temperatures and a looming hungry monster – seemed very horrifying to me. And from the bears’ perspective, having your habitat exploited and melted away, with nothing you can do against those greedy intruders, is horrific. Then there’s the climate angle. Horror all around!”

Loredana Rehekampff and Andreas Schmied co-produce for Austria’s Samsara Filmproduction.

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

‘Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare’ – First Image from ‘Poohniverse’ Horror Movie

The filmmakers behind Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey are expanding their public domain horror universe with a handful of upcoming “Poohniverse” movies, including Bambi: The ReckoningPinocchio: Unstrung, and Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare.

Variety has scored the first image from Neverland Nightmare, seen above.

The website details, “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare follows Wendy Darling as she strikes out in an attempt to rescue her brother Michael from ‘the clutches of the evil Peter Pan.’ Along the way she meets Tinkerbell, who in this twisted version of the story will be seen taking heroine, convinced that it’s pixie dust.”

Scott Jeffrey will direct Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, expected Halloween 2024.

Jeffrey tells us, “I am taking inspiration from French cinema while in prep for this movie. The film will be incredibly tense. I would say it’s a mesh between Switchblade Romance and The Black Phone with our own spin on it. It is a nasty, violent and incredibly dark movie.”

Megan Placito has joined the cast as Wendy Darling, Kit Green is Tinkerbell, Peter DeSouza-Feighoney (The Pope’s Exorcist) is Michael Darling and Charity Kase (RuPaul Drag Race) is James. Martin Portlock will be playing the twisted version of Peter Pan.

Created by J.M. Barrie way back in 1902, the character of Peter Pan – like Winnie the Pooh – is in the public domain, even if the iconic Disney iteration of the character is very much not.
